Morphine positives rise to six as another fails test
A SIXTH horse has tested positive for morphine after trainer Tony Carroll revealed that his Ocean Legend showed traces of the banned substance after winning at Brighton on June 24.
The BHA announced last week that a total of five horses had returned positive samples but that threshold was broken on Thursday morning. Carroll joined Charlie Hills, Gay Kelleway, Eve Johnson Houghton and Sir Michael Stoute, whose Estimate and Russian Realm both showed traces of the substance after running at Royal Ascot, in admitting that horses in the care had failed post-race tests.
The source of the drug is thought to be linked to contaminated feed supplied by Dodson & Horrell who are undertaking an investigation which primarily focuses on an unnamed supplier.

Carroll said: "We have a lot of runners and a lot of winners and horses tested but it is just the one that has come up.
"It's crazy but that's what has come up in the tests - I don't know enough about it as it is not something that anybody uses.
"These things happen and the tests are there and I couldn't lay the blame on anybody.
"We've used Dodson & Horrell for 15 years and they are an exceptionally good company."
Dodson & Horrell compensated connections of nine horses for all lost prize-money after accepting responsibility for two batches of morphine positives in 2006 and 2007. The horses were all disqualified but no blame was attached to trainers, who were not fined.
